James P. Baldwin, principal at Kings Glen Elementary in Fairfax County, was the recipient of the 2004-2005 GWRC Administrator of the Year Award.

Mr. Baldwin's outstanding leadership has led his school in a direction that strives continually for excellence. His support and implementation of programs has created quality instructional practices in which all students can acheive. Under Mr. Baldwin's leadership, Kings Glen has implemented the use of developmental word study, use of guided reading, and the use of specific reading comprehension strategies for both fiction and nonfiction texts.

Mr. Baldwin becomes Johnny Appleseed and charms students with his verbal and musical talents and he produces and participates in school/community theatre productions. He continues to model the role of reader and learner and the behaviou of a person with character and integrity. Congratulations, Mr. Baldwin.

GWRC will be seeking nominees for its Administrator of the Year 2006 award to recognize administrators who show exceptional support of reading. Nominees will be recognized and the award presented at the Fall GWRC conference to be held in November, 2005. Nominees should have been administrators for at least three years and have been consistent in their support of reading during that time.
